Durham police report sharp increase in tickets issued for noisy cars

Durham police are cracking down on people with excessively loud and noisy cars.

They say excessive noise and modified mufflers have been an ongoing issue in the community, so officers have been prioritizing enforcement.

They’re reporting a 144 per cent increase in tickets for excessive noise, emissions and improper muffler infractions so far this year compared to the same time last year.

Police say if you want your car to be noisy, you’ll get a roaring ticket. It’s a $110 ticket per infraction for noise, no muffler or an improper muffler.
