Toyota Fortuner type 1 modified to look like type 3 looks sporty

Toyota Fortuner is one of the most loved SUVs in India. Toyota introduced Fortuner in the Indian market over a decade ago and ever since then, its popularity has not come down. It is popular among buyers for its reliability and comparatively low cost of maintenance. It is a capable off-roader and there are many owners who are still using the first-generation Fortuner without any issues. Many who feel that the SUV has started to look outdated have options in the form of aftermarket customisations and body kits. Here we have a video of a Fortuner type 1 that has been neatly modified to look like type 3.

The video has been uploaded by Autorounders on their YouTube channel. In this video, the owner of the SUV drove this Fortuner all the way from Goa to Mumbai to get the customisation work done. The type 1 Fortuner in grey colour was look in great condition. There were no major dents or scratches anywhere on the car. The owner of the SUV wanted to convert the front-end to look like type 3 while the rear would be modified to look like type 2.

As part of the conversion, the front bumper, grille, bonnet, headlamps and tail lamps, rear bumper were all removed from the SUV. The front fenders were also removed. The team then marked all the minor dents on the panels and fixed the issue as the whole car had to be repainted too. Once the dents were fixed, a sander was used to remove excess putty and the original paint from the car. After removing the original paint, a layer of primer was applied on the SUV to protect the metal panels from rust and also act as a base for the actual paint. Once the primer had dried out, the SUV was driven to the paint booth after washing. This was done in order to remove any dust particle sticking to the body panels.

This would affect the final look of the product. The bumper, door handles, and bonnet were all painted separately to achieve an even finish. The owner opted for Sapphire Black shade which is used in BMW cars. The car was completely painted in this shade and the a clear coat was also applied on the car to achieve the glossy finish. As part of the modification, the front headlamps, grille, bonnet, bumper and fenders were all replaced with type 3 units. With minor fabrication work, these panels fit perfectly.

The front was looking just like a type 3 unit however, the owner did not wanted the car to look like type 3 from the rear. This was probably because, it requires a lot of fabrication work and even then the finished product does not look very neat. The rear gets aftermarket type 2 all-LED tail lamps and a illuminated Fortuner applique on the tailgate. The interior on this SUV has been modified too. It now comes with a custom made tan coloured seat covers and the interior has been completely finished in black and tan dual-tone shade. The finished product looks extremely sporty on the outside and inside.
